Two blankets aren’t enough yet three are too hot. And why oh why hasn’t anyone invented hot water bottle ugg boots yet? (We know, we’ve scoured the interwebs with credit card in hand). Just some of the many wintery dilemmas plaguing us right now.

And for good reason – Winter has officially started with the Winter Solstice on Tuesday this week. For the non-hippies amongst us, that means short days, even chillier weather and the knowing we’d be totally screwed if we were in Westeros.

However, the shortest day also means the longest night – which is the perfect call for music, fires and mulled wine to warm your cockles. Perfect for when your motivation to go outside is totally non existent. Solstice solace, even.

This week we’ve put together a dark and sexy box with deep wintery blooms, including black kale, spray roses and dark red Sweet William – lush!

So rug up, get some mulled wine on the stove and get ready to celebrate a beautiful darkness.

Black Kale

This week we’ve secured some insanely gorgeous black kale. Deep, dark and gothic. Cut cleanly at an angle and popped fresh water, these beauties should last anywhere up to 2 weeks. Remove outer leaves as they wilt for extra brownie points!

Deep red mini stock

Mostly available in big, ruffly pastels, this week’s miniature stock is an enchanting (and fragrant!) touch to this week’s dark and sexy box. Remove most of the lower leaves and cluster these blossoms into your arrangement this week!

Red spray roses

This week’s spray roses are gorgeous clusters of buds and deep red petals. Rather than stripping away all the leaves, keep the upper foliage intact to keep the wild, just-picked-from-the-garden look.

Deep red Sweet William

This week’s Sweet William is a real treat. Usually available in dusty to dark pinks, magenta, purple, white and bi-colour, this week’s is gorgeous mulled wine red. We love their densely clustered little stems that are jam packed with tiny zig zag edged blossoms – perfect for snipping up into smaller vases or just scattered across a table for a high tea to remember.
