Easter Hunt! – Easter Themed Protea Arrangement
with Statice, Carnations and Billy Buttons
There’s so much to love about Easter – friends, family, chocolate, a proliferation of bunny themed things, and of course, a much needed long weekend! It’s the perfect time to crack out those crafty talents and dive into some egg decorating (or let’s be honest, some chocolate egg eating!)
We’re going Easter chick chic this week, with a gorgeously soft yellow and white palette. The stars of this week’s box are stunning proteas, looking like perfect hand painted eggs. You’ll find them hiding in frilly yellow statice, snowy white carnations and sunny chick yellow billy buttons!
Start by crossing stems of laurel in your vase to create a greenery base, and then nestle in your statice and carnations to fill your vase out. Slide in your proteas at different heights, and finish with your sprinkling of billy buttons. Too cute!
Proteas – Hailing from South Africa, these stunning hardy beauties are grown right here in Australia. With their stiff outer “petals” and feathery middles, they last for up to two weeks and dry incredibly well. They’re also lovers of carbs, so make sure you use your flower food this week!
Carnations – These locally grown carnations are cultivated in an amazing array of gelato pastel, or bright hues, and are best styled in punchy clusters or minimally threaded throughout your arrangement for back up colour. This week’s snowy white sims are some of the very best!
Billy Buttons – Also known as drumsticks (for obvious reasons) or woollyheads (cute!), these adorable pom pom like flowers are an Australian native, with each plant growing just a single flower stalk. These dry well and add a stylish splash of colour popped into rough edged ceramics or milk glass vases.
Statice – Papery, lacy statice adds soft texture this week. You often find it in a royal purple, lilac or hot pink, but we’re starting to see it in soft, pastel colours like this week’s soft yellow. It also dries impeccably, so hang on to your stems!
Here’s what you’ll need.
5-7 mixed stems of statice and carnations
3 stems of your chosen greenery
5 billy buttons
2 brightly coloured vases
sharp scissors or flower shears
