And so we’ve arrived at that weird time of the year, where Winter is not quite over and Spring is only just teasing us with tiny hints of colour in unexpected pockets.
Cheeky yellow daffodils are popping up here and there, tiny buds are forming on the bare branches, and yet, woe betide if you accidentally leave home without your jacket.
And while we are still a few weeks away from the abundance that is Spring there’s a LOT to celebrate about being stuck between seasons, with beautiful early blossom branches available to mix up with winter favourites.
That’s exactly what you’ll find in this week’s fun transeasonal box! Winter stars like deeply hued snapdragons, snowy kale, and small branches of privet, dripping with berries. All mixed up with a hint of spring blossoms from this week’s peach branches!
This week’s selection is easy to style, simply gather your snapdragons and kale into a posy, a few sprigs of peach at the back for height, and pop straight into a vase.
Catch Phil on this week’s video to see how it’s done!
Here’s what you’ll need.
A bunch of kale, snapdragons and peach blossom branches
Greenery such as eucalyptus, ivy berry or privet
Flower shears or secateurs
A sturdy vase and fresh water
1. Prep your stems
Trim away any lower leaves that might fall below the water line. Simply pull leaves away with your fingers.
Start your posy by nesting your kale stems together. This will be the focal point of your arrangement.
3. Snapdragons and Peach Blossom
Tuck in your snapdragons towards the back of your posy, leaving a couple slightly taller than the others.
Nestle in some tall lengths of peach blossom for height.
4. Trim and place
Once you’re roughly happy with your bunch, trim off to the same length and your posy in a vase with lots of fresh water.
Tuck in branches of privet berry at the sides.
Tip! If you prefer, you can remove any greenery from the privet before using, for a clean look.
6. Happy days!
Pop any leftovers or casualties in a little glass jar or vase (perfect for your bathroom).
Place your spanking gorgeous arrangement up on your kitchen bench or dining table and enjoy the best of Spring AND Winter!
